CBP announces the extension and admissibility of Venezuelan passports for up to 10 years.

The National Assembly of Venezuela (2015) issued a decree that extends the validity of Venezuela passports issued before June 25, 2024 to ten years. Consequently, the Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agency’s website was updated on July 19, 2024 to reflect a new rule extending Venezuelan passport validity from previously issued 5 years to 10 years from the expiration date. The decree recognizes eligibility dates from passports and passport extensions (known as ‘prorrogas’ for Venezuelan authorities) alike.

Thus, under the new measure, a passport that expired in 2018 with an extension prolonging its validity up to 2020 may be valid up to 2030.

Conversely, the website of the Department of State has not established a similar note regarding the admissibility of an expired Venezuelan passport.
